Target Interaction ChallengesVenue: The Cosener's House, Abingdon, UK

The Central Laser Facility is hosting a workshop to examine the effect of target, laser and diagnostic developments of relevance for solid target interactions. Many recent studies have demonstrated the importance of improving both the laser and target quality to undertake new physics and generate reproducible data. This topic is becoming increasingly important for solid target interaction studies as both the power and repetition rate of high power lasers increases. Positioning targets to the exacting requirements as the beam quality and F number of the focussing system improves is even more challenging and can make a critical difference to the experimental data. Depending on the exact interaction physics, a number of differing effects (pre-pulse, intensity distribution, surface finish, positioning accuracy) become more critical.

Topics to be covered include:
* Target positioning and alignment systems
* High repetition rate targetry
* Plasma absorption and characterisation
* High repetition rate debris issues
