The 1st LASERLAB-EUROPE User Meeting was held at St. Catherine's College, Oxford and organised by the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
Of the two LASERLAB User Meetings to be held in 2005 the Oxford meeting covered physics related experiments conducted under the LASERLAB project (Agenda). A second meeting to be held later in the year in Amsterdam will cover biology and chemistry related experiments.
The meeting attracted 25 participants which were made up of invited facility users and facility managers. The meeting's principle objectives were outlined by Colin Danson from CCLRC:
 Demonstration of scientific excellence
 Infrastructure updates
Visit to the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
 How is LASERLAB working?
Activities during the meeting included a series of presentations by both users and facility managers, round table discussions, and lab tours to the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
The presentations covered a wide range of topics from laser interactions with gas puff targets and using lasers to measure solar opacity.
In a series of talks by facility managers the users were updated on current capabilities of infrastructures and plans for upgrades. The LASERLAB facilities represented were CLF, LULI, LOA, SLIC, PALS and GSI.
Minutes of the meeting can be found here.
The attendees had the opportunity to visit the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Included was a tour of the Central Laser Facility and the DIAMOND project a medium energy synchrotron currently under construction. Within the Central Laser Facility the delegates visited the Vulcan ultra-high power laser, Astra (currently being upgraded through the Gemini Project) and the Lasers for Science Facility.
