National Contact Points
Network of National Contact Points from new and previously not represented member states
Objective: Analysis of the geographical distribution of the European scientific laser community, of the FP6 Users of LASERLAB-EUROPE, and of the distribution of laser Research Infrastructures exhibits a distinct disparity between geographical regions, with the northern, eastern and south-western European areas being under-represented. It is one of the objectives of LASERLAB-EUROPE in FP7 to help overcome this disparity, resulting e.g. in a substantial increase of its members. A supporting targeted measure towards this goal is the installation of a network of representatives from these areas, called National Contact Points (NCP). Its main objective will be the establishment of links and information flow between national communities on the one hand, and opportunities offered by LASERLAB on the other. In particular, the LASERLAB consortium may act as advisor for the adequate application of structural funds in national research policies and roadmaps. The long-term objective is to help new member states to reach the same level of development of laser infrastructures, by stressing before the EC and before the national bodies the situation in terms of scientific interest, and coherence within the laser infrastructure landscape of the European Research Area.
